WS1.01 - How to Succeed During SACS Accreditation Enrollment managers, admissions officers and registrars play a critical role in the success of the reaccreditation process at their institutions. From our involvement in the development of strategic enrollment and curriculum goals to our ability to identify and retrieve the data necessary for measuring progress toward reaching those goals, we are uniquely positioned as key players in the reaccreditation cycle.
Models for success in this process are rare, but we are fortunate to have the architect of such a successful model as our presenter for this workshop. Dr. Bruce Murphy, Chief Academic Officer and senior civilian at Air University, recently led Air University through a SACS visit. End result; no recommendations. Dr. Murphy will share his plan for success with the members of SACRAO. If you want to be this successful on your next SACS visit, don't miss this workshop!

WS1.04 - The Great Locomotive Chase: Tennessee vs. Georgia Do you need a break from thinking about recruitment, retention, registration and graduation?! Join SACRAO’s own Joe Head, celebrated amateur historian, author, and movie critic (as well as enrollment manager!) as he describes the colorful events surrounding an episode in the early part of the Civil War regarding the very first American train hijacking that led to our first Congressional Medals of Honor. The train, The General, located in Chattanooga, remained a prominent historical icon over many decades as Tennessee and Georgia disputed its rightful ownership. Joe has written a book about the historical event and even visited with Fess Parker (Davy Crockett) about the making of the Disney movie, "The Great Locomotive Chase." Attend this session and learn about the actual event and the 20th century conclusion that resolved the legal dispute between Georgia and the City of Chattanooga. Drawing on both educational and sociological literature, as well as practical experience, the presenters make the point that colleges and universities can function as “agencies of enchantment” when they help students understand how living their lives in pursuit of a “calling,” rather than simply chasing “careers,” can give them a better grasp of the significance of who they are in the various contexts in which they find themselves. |
